From the deep rooted mining history of Anatolia to today
Since the pre-historic times Anatolia hosted the turning points of mining with its rich underground wealth. Boron reserves with s of the world share is one the major wealth of our homeland.
History of boron mining in Turkey goes back to 1865. Boron reserves first started to operate during the Ottoman Empire.
After the War of Independence and the foundation of the Turkey Republic, Etibank (now Eti Mine Works General Management) was founded in 1935 as a state-owned company to develop the mineral resources of Turkey. The name was given by the founder of the Turkish republic Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, inspired from Hitite (in Turkish Eti) civilization who lived and advanced in mining in Anatolia.
In mid 1950’s and early 1960’s the largest colemanite and tincal reserves were discovered by private companies. One of our founding partner Mr. Yakal’s family found the colemanite deposits in 1954 and became the second largest producer and exporter of colemanite prior to nationalization of boron mines in 1978.
After the nationalization of all boron mines in 1978, Etibank (Eti Mine Works) has became the sole company in Turkey to mine, process, market and sell borates. Under the current law, existing boron minerals are the property of state.
